The discussion here is divided 600 1451 34 into the region below and above 20 MeV. 600 1451 35 600 1451 36 INCIDENT NEUTRON ENERGIES < 20 MeV 600 1451 37 Below 20 MeV the evaluation is based completely on the ENDF/B- 600 1451 38 VI.1 (Release 1) evaluation by Fu [Fu90]. The following minor 600 1451 39 modifications were made to the ENDF/B-VI.1 evaluation: 600 1451 40 600 1451 41 1. The energy range from En = 20 MeV to 32 MeV was replaced by 600 1451 42 the LANL evaluation (described below); 600 1451 43 600 1451 44 2. The elastic, nonelastic, and total cross sections from 19 to 600 1451 45 20 MeV were varied to join smoothly with the higher energy 600 1451 46 values at 20 MeV. 600 1451 47 600 1451 48 3. The new flag, LTT=3, is used in MF=4,MT=2 to indicate that 600 1451 49 Legendre polynomials are used below 20 MeV and probability 600 1451 50 tabulations at higher energies. A small discontinuity exists for 600 1451 51 MF=4,MT=2 at 20 MeV where the two different representations join. 600 1451 52 The higher energy evaluation utilizes a tabulation in order to 600 1451 53 overcome the inaccuracies caused by the ENDF-6 limitation of 20 600 1451 54 for the maximum number of Legendre coefficients. 600 1451 55 600 1451 56 INCIDENT NEUTRON ENERGIES > 20 MeV (12C analysis) 600 1451 57 The evaluation above 20 MeV utilizes MF=6, MT=5 to represent 600 1451 58 all reaction data. We use the GNASH code system [Yo92], 600 1451 87 which utilizes Hauser-Feshbach statistical, preequilibrium and 600 1451 88 direct-reaction theories. Coupled-channel and spherical optical 600 1451 89 model calculations are used to obtain particle transmission 600 1451 90 coefficients for the Hauser-Feshbach calculations, as well as for 600 1451 91 the elastic neutron angular distributions. 600 1451 92 Cross sections and spectra for producing individual residual 600 1451 93 nuclei are included for reactions that exceed a cross section of 600 1451 94 approximately 1 nb at any energy. The energy-angle-correlations 600 1451 95 for all outgoing particles are based on Kalbach systematics 600 1451 96 [Ka88]. 600 1451 97 A model was developed to calculate the energy distributions of 600 1451 98 all recoil nuclei in the GNASH calculations (Ch96b). The recoil 600 1451 99 energy distributions are represented in the laboratory system in 600 1451 100 MT=5, MF=6, and are given as isotropic in the lab system. Note 600 1451 101 that all other data in MT=5,MF=6 are given in the center-of-mass 600 1451 102 system. This method of representation requires a modification of 600 1451 103 the original ENDF-6 format. 600 1451 104 Preequilibrium corrections were performed in the course of the 600 1451 105 GNASH calculations using either Feshbach, Kerman, Koonin (FKK) 600 1451 106 theory [Ch93] or the exciton model of Kalbach [Ka77, Ka85]. 600 1451 107 Discrete level data from nuclear data sheets were matched to 600 1451 108 continuum level densities using the formulation of Ignatyuk 600 1451 109 [Ig75] and pairing and shell parameters from the Cook [Co67] 600 1451 110 analysis.
