Announcement

A Consultants' Meeting on Determination of Beta and Gamma Decay by means of Total Absorption Gamma-ray Spectroscopy (TAGS) will be held at IAEA Headquarters in Vienna on 27 – 28 January 2009. The purpose of the meeting is to follow-up at both the scientific and applications levels on the adoption of TAGS for the quantification of decay heat, as encouraged by the IAEA and NEA-OECD in December 2005 and May 2006. Progress will be monitored to ensure that the specified data needs of 2005/06 are being addressed. This work should also be expanded through the encouragement of new laboratories to become involved in producing the decay data required to ensure the accurate calculation of decay heat for confident comparison with equivalent benchmark studies. Discussions will involve Indian and USA facilities, in particular, along with on-going studies in Europe. An informed debate will provide guidelines for the completion of these important experimental studies of key fission products, and also assist in achieving the recommendations of Subgroup 25 of the Nuclear Energy Agency Working Party on Evaluation Cooperation (NEA-WPEC).
