Medical applications of nuclear radiation are of considerable interest to the IAEA. Cyclotrons and accelerators are being used for production of radioisotopes for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. During the past decades, many laboratories have reported a large number of experimental data relevant to medical radioisotope production. However, no systematic effort had been devoted to their standardization. IAEA had initiated a project to create a reference charged particle cross-section database for medical radioisotope production in 1995. IAEA started Co-ordinated Research Project-s (CRP-s) to create a database, with international effort, dedicated to standardization of nuclear data for radioisotope production. The projects covered the following areas: Ø Compilation of data on the most important reactions for monitoring light ion charged particle beams (p, d, 3He, α), and evaluation of the available experimental data (both by fitting and theory). Ø Compilation of production cross-section data on radioisotopes most commonly used in medicine. Evaluation of the reported experimental data. The created database contains evaluated cross sections for reactions induced by light charged-particles. Production cross sections are presented for the most important as well as for the emerging gamma emitter, positron emitter, and therapeutic radioisotopes. Cross sections for beam monitor reactions are also given for several reactions induced by protons, deuterons, 3He, and alpha particles. Documentation is available, including evaluation methodology, detailed bibliography, graphical and tabulated results in the publications listed separately on the top of the page of each group. The database was updated several times as new data were available. Contributing institutes in alphabetic order: |
