High counting background 1365100100023 during beam-on operation required good collimation of 1365100100024 the neutron beam; this was attained with a two-inch 1365100100025 diameter collimator six feet long, surrounded by 1365100100026 lead. and concrete of a minimum thickness of six feet, 1365100100027 placed 30 feet from the beryllium target. The 1365100100028 resulting beam was about 3.3 inches in diameter as it 1365100100029 passed perpendicularly through the outer periphery of 1365100100030 the disk. Beta-counting of the activities generated 1365100100031 in a rotating polyethylene disk yielded cross 1365100100032 sections for the production of some heavy fragments, 1365100100033 identified as to isotope and atomic number. 1365100100034 Cloud-chamber study yielded cross sections for almost 1365100100035 all reactions, but resulted in the identification of 1365100100036 most of the heavy fragments only by atomic number. 1365100100037 Rotating disk results were chosen as more reliable. 1365100100038 MONITOR ((MONIT)6-C-12(N,2N)6-C-11,,SIG) 1365100100039 DECAY-MON (6-C-11,20.5MIN,B+) 1365100100040 HISTORY (19970416C) 1365100100041 (19970506A) Reference corrected. 1365100100042 (20240807A) BP: Updated to new date formats, lower 1365100100043 case.
