The 2.3 cm diameter neutron beam was 14848001 12 collimated to originate from tantalum portion of the 14848001 13 target in order to reduce the gamma ray background 14848001 14 produced in the water moderator. 14848001 15 DETECTOR (SCIN) The neutron detector consisted of a 2.5 cm 14848001 16 thick NE110 plastic scintillator. 14848001 17 SAMPLE Two samples were contained in 3.2 14848001 18 cm diameter cylindrical holders with 0.5 cm thick 14848001 19 tantalum end caps. Because of this large 14848002 12 correction at 80 m, additional measurements using 14848002 13 thick iron filters in the beam were done at this 14848002 14 distance.
