Chemical purities 21722 1 13 were as follows: 21722 1 14 Ti - 99.5%, V - 99.8%, Cr - 99.0%, 21722 1 15 Mn - 99.0%, Fe - 99.99%, Co - 99.9%, 21722 1 16 Ni - 99.5%, Cu - 99.999%, Zn 85%, 21722 1 17 Ge - 99.9999999%, As - 99.98% 21722 1 18 METHOD (TOF,ASSOP,PSD) Associated particle technique for 21722 1 19 measurement of the energy spectra of inelastically 21722 1 20 scattered neutrons at 110 degrees. Flight path 1 m. 21722 1 21 Start pulses from alpha detector and stop from 21722 1 22 neutron detector. 21722 1 23 DETECTOR (SCIN) Neutron detector was NE213 liquid scintillator 21722 1 24 diameter 127 mm, 50 mm thick, with pulse shape 21722 1 25 discrimination against gammas. Counting efficiency 21722 1 26 determined by neutron scattered from hydrogen at 21722 1 27 various angles. 21722 1 28 Alpha detector was a 0.05 mm thick plastic 21722 1 29 scintillator placed 50 mm from the tritium target. 21722 1 30 ANALYSIS Level densities are derived from measured inelastic 21722 1 31 neutron spectra with a compound nucleus - statistical 21722 1 32 model theory. A Fermi gas model, assuming a constant 21722 1 33 nuclear temperature was used. 21722 1 34 A high energy limit of 6.5 MeV was set to avoid the 21722 1 35 contribution from the tail of elastically scattered 21722 1 36 neutrons. 21722 1 37 A lower energy limit was set for each element, 21722 1 38 somewhat higher than the largest energy of neutrons 21722 1 39 emitted in (n,2n) reactions. The effect of (n,pn) 21722 1 40 and (n,2n) reactions on isotopes of low abundance 21722 1 41 was neglected. 21722 1 42 For the inverse reaction cross section three different21722 1 43 sets were used. See flags. 21722 1 44 MONITOR (6-C-12(N,EL)6-C-12,,DA) Absolute efficiency was 21722 1 45 calibrated using the cross section of neutron elastic 21722 1 46 scattering on carbon at 30 and 40 degrees, with 21722 1 47 values taken from NP,53,177,1964. 21722 1 48 MONIT-REF (11286003,R.L.Clarke+,J,NP,53,177,1964) 21722 1 49 CORRECTION .Background corrections were made with an empty 21722 1 50 aluminium sample can. 21722 1 51 ERR-ANALYS (DATA-ERR) Uncertainties are standard deviations from a21722 1 52 least squares fit to the experimental data.
