Time M0676 1 30 correlations between neutron signal and the laser M0676 1 31 pulse were measured to estimate the number of M0676 1 32 neutrons that arrived randomly at the 3He detector. M0676 1 33 SAMPLE Metallic powders of 1246 mg 186W, 996 mg 187Re, and M0676 1 34 693 mg 188Os enriched to 99.79, 99.52 and 94.99%, M0676 1 35 respectively, were pressed to self-supporting tablets M0676 1 36 with a diameter of 8 mm. The 188Os powder included M0676 1 37 major contaminants of 189Os (2.55%), 190Os (1.27%) M0676 1 38 and 192Os (0.97%). M0676 1 39 ANALYSIS Direct measurement. M0676 1 40 ERR-ANALYS (ERR-S) Statistical errors M0676 1 41 (ERR-SYS) Systematical uncertainties are dominated by M0676 1 42 the efficiency of the neutron detector (5%) and the M0676 1 43 gamma-ray flux (3%). M0676 1 44 COMMENT Cross sections of the 186W,187Re,188Os(g,n) reactions M0676 1 45 were measured using quasimonochromatic photon beams M0676 1 46 from laser Compton scattering with average energies M0676 1 47 from 7.3 to 10.9 MeV. The results are compared with M0676 1 48 the predictions of Hauser-Feshbach statistical M0676 1 49 calculation using four different sets of input M0676 1 50 parameters. In addition, the inverse neutron capture M0676 1 51 cross sections were evaluated by constraining the M0676 1 52 model parameters, especially E1 strength function, on M0676 1 53 the basis of the experimental data. The present M0676 1 54 experiment helps to further constrain the correction M0676 1 55 factor F-sigma for the neutron capture on the 9.75 M0676 1 56 keV state on 187Os. Implications of Fsigma for Re-Os M0676 1 57 cosmochronology are discussed with a focus on the M0676 1 58 uncertainty in the estimate the age of a galaxy.
