Electronic Stopping Power of Matter for Ions

Computer Programs

The following computer programs for stopping power are available on the internet:

SRIM, for all ions and targets, including compounds by means of Bragg rule and an option for compound correction. Authors: J.F.Ziegler and J.Biersack. The last version up to now is SRIM-2013.

PSTAR and ASTAR, for protons and alphas in different targets. Author: M. J. Berger, NIST, Report NISTIR 4992 (1992).

MSTAR, for Li to Ar ions in different targets. Authors: H. Paul and A. Schinner. Results of MSTAR in tabular form can be found in "Empirical stopping power tables for ions from 3Li to 18Ar and from 0.001 to 1000 MeV/nucleon in solids and gases", H. Paul and A. Schinner, Atomic Data and Nuclear Data Tables 85 (2003) 377.

ATIMA, for protons and heavy ions, and specific kinetic energies from 1 keV/u to 450 GeV/u. Program developed at GSI by H.Geissel and C.Scheidenberger. See more details in H. Geissel, C. Scheidenberger, Nucl. Instr. and Meth. B136 (1998) 114.

CasP for all ions and targets. CasP is Convolution approximation for swift Particles, by Grande and Schiwietz. Last version 5.2. Reference: G. Schiwietz and P.L. Grande, "Stopping of Protons - Improved Accuracy of the UCA Model", Nucl. Instr. and Meth. B 273, 1-5 (2012).

PASS (version 21.06 from 17 Feb 2020), for ions Z=1 to 92 in different targets (gas, solid, compound). Pass code is "Binary theory of electronic stopping", by Sigmund and Schinner. Reference: A.Schinner and P.Sigmund, "Expanded PASS stopping code", Nucl. Instr. and Meth. B 460, 19-26 (2019).
