OPTICAL  MODEL  PARAMETERS

The optical model, Segment of the Reference Input Parameter Library consists of some 293 optical model potentials for incident neutrons (76), protons (125), deuterons (6), tritons (26), 3He (53), and 4He (7).  Global as well as nuclide-specific potentials are included that utilize spherical, vibrational, or rotational models.  The optical model parameterizations in the Starter File are given in a very general format, which is described here in detail together with the conventions used for numbering the potentials.  In general, it is recommended that nuclide-specific potentials be used for materials where careful analyses have been made.  For cases where global parameterizations must be used, recommendations are included.  The recommended file, which is the main RIPL optical potential file, is named  losalamos_omlib.dat.  Additionally, there are supplemental files that define the parameters and specify the format (losalamos.readme) and that include subroutines and short codes for accessing and summarizing the file (losalamos_omcode.for).
