Stopping Power of Matter for Ions

Computer Programs

In 2001, Prof. Paul started to add links to computer programs like MSTAR, and to those of other authors.

In the article "Empirical stopping power tables…" by H. Paul and A. Schinner published in Atomic Data and Nuclear Data Tables (see papers), results of MSTAR are presented in tabular form.

The following computer programs for stopping power are available on the internet:

PSTAR and ASTAR by M.J.Berger for protons and alphas.

MSTAR by H.Paul and A.Schinner for ions from Li to Ar. This program, with instructions for use, can be downloaded from here. The program's accuracy can be judged from the section on statistical analyses.

SRIM by J.Biersack and J.F.Ziegler for all ions. See my  list of programs for remarks about the year-to-year changes of Ziegler's programs.

ATIMA by H.Geissel and C.Scheidenberger.

CasP by P.L.Grande and G.Schiwietz for all ions.

For a critical comparison of some of these programs with experimental data, see Statistical Analyses
